A standard tub alcove in an older second-floor bathroom is already the right footprint for a walk-in shower — no walls moved, no plumbing relocated.

The tub came out, a new drain went in with the slope set first, and the pan, walls, corners, seams and every penetration were sealed as one continuous waterproofing system over cement board before any tile. The walls are 12×24 white matte tile, the shower floor is a pebble mosaic, and the niche runs the full width of the wall with an upper and lower shelf. Inside: a new valve, rain head and hand shower on a diverter, behind two-panel sliding glass doors. The other half of the room got a new vanity with a top-mount sink, a new toilet, a medicine cabinet and sconces.

The original wainscoting and linen cabinet were protected and kept, so the new tile meets the existing woodwork — the real detail of this bathroom.
