Aging-in-Place Bathroom Remodeling in Greater Boston
A bathroom that worked fine for years can start to feel harder to use: stepping over a tub wall or shower curb, reaching for something to hold on to, or fitting a walker through a narrow door. Sun Shore Construction remodels bathrooms across Greater Boston, and we make these changes as part of the remodel — planned around the bathroom and the home you already have.
What we do
Grab bars
We install grab bars where you actually need support — by the toilet, in the shower, and at the tub or shower entry. We plan where grab bars go and add solid backing before the walls are closed up.
Curbless (zero-threshold) showers
A curbless shower removes the step at the shower entry, so you can walk straight in. Getting there takes more than removing the curb: the floor has to be built so water still drains to the shower and stays out of the rest of the room. We plan the floor, drain and waterproofing together as part of the remodel.
Wider bathroom doorways
We widen bathroom doorways so a walker or wheelchair can pass through more easily. Because a door opening sits in a wall, we check what is inside that wall before we commit to the new width.
How a project works
- Free on-site estimate. We look at the bathroom, talk through what is getting harder day to day, and check the walls, floor and doorway.
- Formal quote. After the visit you get a written quote. We don’t price projects over the phone, because every bathroom and every wall is different.
- Permits and inspections. We pull the building permit and coordinate inspections with your town. Electrical and plumbing permits are pulled by the licensed electricians and plumbers we hire for your project — and because we manage the whole job, every permit is our responsibility, not yours.
- The remodel. One contractor manages the whole job.

Planning ahead, or already finding it hard?
Some homeowners make these changes before they need them, while doing a full bathroom remodel anyway. Others call because getting in and out of the shower has already become difficult. Either way, we start the same way: a free on-site estimate, and a formal quote after.
